The Pintupi people have produced a number of notable Western Desert artists, including Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Makinti Napanangka and Walangkura Napanangka. Debra is the grand daughter of the late, Shorty Lungkata Tjungurrayi, and follows in this artistic tradition, drawing on her traditional history to create artworks depicting various Dreamings.
Based at one of the many outstations in the Haasts Bluss area, Debra produces paintings using a precise dotting style, with an attention to detail that demonstrates her dedication to her art. The use of the traditional dot work, along with a palette of predominantly earthy tones places Debra’s work within a lineage of Pintupi art, with its traditional essence. Within these artworks Debra depicts her own Dreamings that include the ‘Honey Ant Dreaming’, ‘Women’s Ceremony’ and ‘My Special Homeland Dreaming’.
